• When looking for a used full-size pickup truck, the most recent generation comes with more towing power, making it the best option for handymen everywhere.
• If you want something that looks a bit more elegant, then you want to look for the 1794 edition, as it comes with wood trims.
• Starting in the second generation, you can find the TRD Pro. It comes with some off-road features that compete with other big names in the market.

When this generation hit the roads, it featured two powertrains. These are the 3.4L V6 that can produce 389 horsepower and 479 lb-ft of torque. The other powertrain is a hybrid option that is marketed as the i-Force Max. This one can produce 437 horsepower and 583 lb-ft of torque. When properly equipped, this generation can tow up to 12,000 pounds and has a payload capacity of 1,940 pounds. Of these two, the one that you want to look for is the i-Force Max engines, as they come with an EPA-rated 22 MPG combined.

This generation came in 7 trims:

These trims can be found in two cab styles, the double cab and the CrewMax. The double cab can be found with 6.5-or 8-foot beds, with the CrewMax coming with 5.5-or 6.5-foot beds.

While the Tundra comes with an 8-inch screen as standard, if you’re lucky, you may find a model that comes with a 14-inch screen. This makes it one of the biggest screens in its class.

The most unique trim in the lineup is the 1794 edition, as it comes with wood accents. If you’re looking for the most value, then you want the SR trim. The SR comes with a coil-spring rear suspension. But if you want something that unlocks more features at a slightly higher price, then the SR5 with the TRD Off-Road package is the way to go. It adds an electronically locking rear differential, unique wheels, and upgraded suspension.

This generation was still capable, but not as strong as the most recent generation. If you don’t mind losing out on some towing power, you can still reliably tow up to 10,000 pounds, but the payload capacity is a bit higher at 2,000 pounds.

Being that this generation was so long, we’ll cover ones that you are more likely to find, starting with the 2014 models. This year saw a standard 3.5-inch information screen, Bluetooth connectivity, and backup camera come to the lineup.

In 2015, the TRD Pro came to the lineup, and this brought the off-road features to the lineup as we know it now. TRD Pro includes large 2.5-inch diameter Bilstein remote reservoir shocks at all four wheels that allow for a greater extension of the shocks compared to other Tundra shocks. The TRD Pro comes with a 2-inch higher ride height than the rest of the Tundra lineup.
