Key Takeaways:
- The most up-to-date used models are 2019 and later.
- The 2012 Chevrolet model is one of the best year models for family road trips, able to go 40 mpg on the highway.
- Earlier models had a manual transmission, making it better for those who want a better feel of the road.
First Generation (2004-2010)
While the Versa had started its first generation in Japan in ‘04, it didn’t come to the US until 2006, as the ‘07 model. While the Versa has four-door siblings here in America, this is the only Nissan four-door model that is available both in the US and world wide.
When this vehicle first hit the market, it came as a hatchback; later in the year, the sedan joined. These models were powered by a 1.8L I4 engine that can produce 122 horsepower. It comes with 3 transmissions: a four-speed manual, a CVT, and a six-speed manual.
When the 2009 model hit the market, it saw the Versa 1.6L come with it. This new engine would output 107 horsepower and was mated with a five-speed manual, with the four-speed automatic being an option.
Second Generation (2011-2014)
When this generation hit the market, it was still using the same engine that was introduced in 2009. While it is less powerful, it does come with an EPA estimated 33 combined MPG.
With the 2012 model, some new trims were introduced. These are the S, SV, and SL. All come with the aforementioned engine. Any model that is equipped with the CVT saw some enhancements in 2013. These new enhancements helped the car achieve an EPA MPG on the highway, making it great for distance driving.
2015 is when the next major features came out for the Versa. Some visual updates were given to the exterior, while the interior saw new features to help make it even better. For the first time, Bluetooth connectivity is now standard across the board.
For 2016, the lineup saw body-colored exterior mirrors come standard, while the SL gained a leather-wrapped steering wheel. 2017 is when the next big updates hit. This was the SV special edition package. This came with 15-inch alloy wheels, fog lights, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, a better audio system, a backup camera, and more, making it one of the better packages to keep an eye out for.
When the middle of 2018 came around, the Versas came with a new 7-inch touchscreen stereo and a rear-view monitor as standard equipment. This new system comes with Siri Eyes Free, Bluetooth streaming, and USB and Aux inputs.
2019 saw more features added to the vehicle in the form of NissanConnect, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. This further increases the vehicle’s ease of use,
Third Generation (2019- Present)
When this gen hit the market, it came with some of the best features available. Coming with three trim levels, you can now find Nissan Safety Shield. You can also find a push-button start, cruise control, as well as a new 7-inch touchscreen that was introduced a few months prior.
For the 2023 model, Nissan added Apple CarPlay and Android Auto to the S trim, the S Plus Package. This made it so that all trim levels had access to these great features.
