This generation shook up the lineup, still offering 3 trim levels like the first generation did at release. These trims are S, SE, and Titanium. Ford came out swinging for the powertrains, offering 5, with two being hybrids. One of the hybrids is the Energi, a plug-in hybrid that was introduced this generation.
This generation came with more driver assistance technologies. These were lanelane-keepingtems, Adaptive Cruise Control, active park assist that utilizes a backup camera, and the Blind Spot Information System.
Before this generation hit the roads, Ford hit the drawing boards and came out with a better hybrid model. This used lithium-ion batteries, now having an EPA estimated 41 MPG combined.
For 2017, two new trims were added. The first one is the returning Sport trim. With it came a V6 engine, a first for the second generation. The other trim is the Platinum. This is the new top-of-the-line trim, coming with the best features available. Thanks to the newer tech this year, this model now comes with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
2019 saw a facelift for the model. This came with Co-Pilot 360 on all trims. It comes with automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, and blind-spot and rear-cross traffic warning systems.
For trims that are SE and up, you now have the 1.5L EcoBoost as the standard engine. The hybrid is also no longer available on the S trim, while the Energy is only available on the Titanium trim. The Energi has seen a slight bump in range, now sitting at 25 miles, up from 22.
When 2020 came around, it was the beginning of the end for the Fusion. Seeing a drastic reduction in the lineup, now only coming in the S, SE, SEL, and Titanium trims. They also cut back on the number of trims that had the hybrid elements on it.
