When this model first hit the market in 2020, it was making waves, but since it is a Cadillac, that shouldn't surprise anybody. For the lineup, you can find the Luxury, Premium Luxury, and Sport. With only a few options, you're pretty much bound to get what you want.
Coming in both 6 and 7 seat configurations, you can choose between extra comfort with the captain's chairs, or another seat just in case you need the most seats possible. Much like the seating configurations, this also offered two powertrains to pick from. These two are the 2.0L I4 and the 3.6L V6. The smaller engine makes 237 horsepower, while the larger one makes 310.
While it may be tempting to go with the stronger of the two engines, you may change your mind when you find out which one is the more efficient of the two. The 2.0L I4 is the best option, this is because it comes with an EPA-rated 27 MPG on the highway with a FWD configuration. When you opt for an AWD configuration, you'll retain the 23 combined MPG, but you'll see slightly less on the highway at 26 MPG.
For the 3.6L V6, you'll find that it comes with an EPA rating of 21 MPG, getting 26 MPG on the highway, and, much like the smaller engine, this one too takes a hit when in AWD.
During the first model year, the XT6 was equipped with an 8-inch screen, which came with Apple CarPlay, as well as Android Auto. This makes it easy to get in and connect to your favorite playlist. The XT6 also comes with a wireless phone charger, helping you stay fully charged, even if you forget to bring your chargers.
If you want some creature comforts, then you'll need to look for some optional features. For these, you'll want a model that is equipped with the "Comfort and Air Quality package". This is because it adds features like heated rear seats, ventilated front seats, and an air ionizer.
Over the next few years, the model saw some changes, but mainly cosmetic. In 2022, the Sport trim saw the addition of Brembo brakes with red-painted calipers, while the models with the Platinum package now come with a steering wheel wrapped in Modena leather rather than last year's Turin leather.
Starting in 2023, a few trims saw some love in the form of new features. These trims were the Premium Luxury and the Sport, and they were equipped with in-dash navigation, heated rear seats, and heated and vented front seats. While on 2022 models, these were optional, this now become the standard, making it more accessible.
Much like the starting years, the last few didn't see much change either, but that's because Cadillac started to wind down production on the XT6. But that doesn't diminish the legacy that this model built, especially when looking at the safety ratings.
During its debut, the model received the IIHS' Top Safety Pick+. Over the course of 4 years, ranging from 2020 to 2023, this model was among the safest in the US. This is thanks to features such as automated emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist, and blind-spot detection.
